Student athletes

Couple days ago I came across an article in my University’s news paper. The article was about student athletes, the author was claiming that student athletes were over rated and also over paid. Being a student athlete myself I was chocked by his words and I got quite offended by his article.

First of all, his article was full of mistakes. For instance, he was claiming that all student athletes had full scholarships, which is not true since most of us have partial scholarships. He also said that for the amount of money we get we do not do anything which is not true also. Regardless of what kind of scholarship a student athlete has, he has to practice in average twenty hours per week plus matches and games.

Also, I wanted to say about student athletes that they usually are good students. In fact, despite having to practice about twenty hours per week and do a lot of travelling they still manage to attend class whenever they can and do homework at night after practice.

My point of view might be slightly biased because I am a student athlete myself, but I truly believe that it takes a lot of work and effort to be student athlete in college. Besides the amount of work that has to be put in in top of practices, student athletes also have to face curfews and rules put by their coaches while other regular students are enjoying their college life.

In conclusion, I believe that it takes a lot to be a student athlete. I also think that for all the effort and work a student athlete puts in, the rewards are fair, meaning that the scholarship awarded are not excessive.
